Meridan GMT Watch Face

Meridan is an analog GMT watch face for Wear OS, and a tribute to a piece of traditional watchmaking: the caller GMT.

On a mechanical GMT watch a fourth hand circles a 24-hour scale once a day. On a caller GMT — the complication built for people who ring home rather than fly there — that fourth hand is the one the owner sets, independently of the main hands. Meridan is the first Wear OS watch face to work that way.

THE GMT HAND

You choose the zone the fourth hand shows from a list of 28 UTC offsets: every whole hour from UTC-11 to UTC+13, plus UTC+3:30, UTC+5:30 and UTC+9:30. The hand is calculated from absolute UTC rather than from the watch's own clock, so it behaves the way the mechanical original does — resetting the watch on arrival leaves it alone, and it goes on pointing at the same moment back home. The zone you picked is spelled out under the date, so there is never a question about which one you are reading.

The main hands stay on local time throughout. Two times, one dial, both read without a tap.

ALWAYS-ON

Where a mechanical watch runs out of room, this one has something to add. As the screen dims the bezel complications drift outward and fade, and a ring of large hour numbers grows in to take their place: the dial that carries the 24-hour GMT scale in daily use hands you the local 12-hour scale in always-on. Two switches control the rest — dim the whole face, and hide the central complications there.

COMPLICATIONS

Six slots, in two groups.

Three circular slots sit across the middle of the dial. The left and right ones draw an arc around the value: a full scale with a marker when the reading lives inside a range, a growing fill when it counts up from zero. They accept ranged values, goal progress, weighted elements, short text, monochrome icons and small images. The third circular slot, at the bottom, is a compact icon-and-text slot for short text and images.

Three more slots follow the curve of the bezel: one long-text slot across the top, two short-text slots along the bottom. All six arrive already filled in, and any of them can be swapped for something else.

COLOUR

Eight independent colour controls, each drawing from the same 72-colour palette: hour marks and icons, minute marks, second marks, the 24-hour scale, complication text, the hour and minute hands, the second hand, and the GMT hand. Six presets ship as ready-made combinations — Meridan, Scarlet, Mint, Tangerine, Sand and Champagne — and you can keep going from any of them.

HANDS AND DATE

Fourteen hand styles for the hour and minute hands. Ten styles for the second hand, plus an option that removes it altogether. Under the centre, one line shows the day and date, or the digital time instead if you prefer, following the system 12- or 24-hour setting; tapping it opens your calendar.

Night mode is a separate switch you turn on yourself. It recolours the face red so it reads without waking your eyes up in the dark.

COMPANION APP

An optional companion app for Android makes installing the face easier and lets you follow the rest of the Time Flies catalogue. The watch face works fully without it.
